On the day of surgery, the patient returns home after recovering for a few hours. The nose is covered with micropore tape and an acuaplast splint, in some cases an internal nasal splint is left, we use Doyle splints which allow air passage and nasal breathing when splints are left they remain on average three days, the Micropore change is done weekly for a total of two to three weeks. The highest degree of swelling will be seen within two days of surgery, and bruised areas will disappear on average within 7-10 days.
Immediately after surgery
You will use a nasal splint. The splint is to protect your nose while sleeping and to protect it from accidental blows.
Some swelling and bruising are expected. Your face will be swollen and the areas around your nose, including the eyelids. You may have to keep your head elevated and relatively still for the first few days after surgery.
Total bed rest is never indicated; you can do simple activities without great efforts.
The first two weeks
The nasal splint is usually worn for two to three weeks. Their return to work or school depends on the amount of effort from their work or school activities, and generally, they can return to their activity after the first week. Most intense activities, including exercise, can generally be resumed in three weeks. You should avoid strenuous exercise, straining, squatting, and lifting heavy things in the first two weeks. You should also avoid the sun while there are bruises.
After the first two weeks
Very mild swelling in the nose can persist for up to several months after surgery, but will probably not be noticeable to others.
Patients are given written and oral instructions for postoperative care, thereby helping to avoid inconvenience, proper recovery is essential to obtain the best result and decrease the possibility of complications.
The patient is instructed to apply antibiotic ointment using a cotton-tipped applicator inside the nose twice a day for the first week, it has a double benefit, as a moisturizer and antibacterial agent. The patient is instructed to use nasal spray saline to help clear the nose of debris and keep it moist on the inside.
Antibiotics will be administered orally for a few days after the intervention, to continue the antibiotic treatment started at the time of the operation.
Medications to decrease inflammation will also be given. It is a painless procedure.
